虛擬語氣（the subjunctive mood）
虛擬語氣的意義：表示說的話不是事實，或不可能發生，只是一種願望，假設或建議等。
（1） 虛擬語氣在if條件狀語從句中的表現形式及用法。
其它注意事項：
1. 錯綜複雜的時間條件句：
主句和從句的動作不是發生在同一時間，其動詞形式要根據時間而定。例如：if he had taken the medicine, he would be all right now.
if i were you, i would h**e gone with him.
2. if 的省略與倒裝：
在正式文體中，有時可省去if。而將從句中were,had,should提到主語前。例如：
she here(=if she were here),she could give us he not left so early(=if he had not left so early), he might h**e missed the it rain tomorrow(=if it should rain tomorrow), i would sleep for a day.
3. 含蓄條件有時虛擬條件不用從句,而用介詞（without,bu for）例如：without(=but for)air(=if there were no air), wre couldn』t live.

4. 含有責備語氣的虛擬結構。

（2） 虛擬語氣在其它從句中的用法
1. 狀語從句:as if ,in order that, for fear that, in case
2. 賓語從句:wish, demand,insist,suggest,command,order
3. 主語從句：it is necessary/natural/important/strange that
it is suggested/demanded/ordered/requested/that
4. 在表語從句或同位語從句中：
demand,insit,suggestion,order,advice,request,
5. 其它句型中：1（1）在定語從句中 it is (high)time that 中，其後謂語動詞用過去式，有時也有用「should+ do」(2)在would rather that---從句中， 「願望」的句型中，其後謂語動詞用過去時。
（表示現在或將來要做的事）或過去完成時（指過去發生的動作，此用法與wish基本相同。） only 句型，該句型意為：但願----，要是---就好了。
（通常其後用過去式或過去完成時，表示一種強烈的願望或遺憾。if only 引起的感嘆句，其形式和意義與wish基本相同。）
