鏈結1. ﹡happen 是不及物動詞，沒有被動語態，意為(偶然) 發生,碰巧,出現。
其常用的固定搭配有
(1) happen to do sth 意為『碰巧做某事』。
（2）sth happen to sb 意為「 某人發生某事」。
﹡take place 意為（根據計畫或安排）發生進行」,也無被動語態,指經過安排或計畫地發生。
eg：no one knows what will happen in the future. the old man looks worried.

鏈結2. by the time 意為「當……時；到……時為止, 到……之前」 ,指從過去的某一點到從句所示的時間為止,當從句為一般過去時時,主句用過去完成時。注意：
by 與其他時間連用表示「 不遲於， 到.......為止」。若指「 到現在為止」用現在完成時，指「到過去某時間為止」，則用過去完成時，指 「到將來某時間為止 」，用將來時。
