二、單詞和習慣用語的用法
1． store store n.商店;儲藏；store v供給；裝配；儲藏
be in store 準備著；必將來到或發生 set or lay store by 重視；珍視
eg: 1）we do not know whatfor us.我們不知道將來的遭遇如何。
2）shegood characters. 她很重視好的品格。
3）a mass of data in the computer.大量的材料被儲存在電腦裡。
4）at christmas stay open late.聖誕期間有些商店經營得較遲。
2．set up設立;創立;建立 set about doing sth/sth著手做某事
set off出發;使開始做 set out to do sth計畫做某事 set foot in/on踏入，進入

注意：base, basis, foundation的區別
base 多作原義，指物體的底部及支架。
basis主要用於比喻，指信念、議論等的依據。
foundation原義及比喻均適用，強調基礎的穩固及堅固。

in effect 實際上 take effect 生效；奏效 h**e an effect on 對……有效果
注意：effect, result 和 affect 區別。
effect 指「由原因直接產生之結果」。affect 主要作動詞用，意指影響。result 則指最終之結果。
eg: 1) the two methods are the same這兩種方法結果是一樣的。

三、語法
本單元的語法重點是構詞法。按照語言一定的規律創造新詞的方法。叫構詞法。
1.合成法：把兩個或兩個以上獨立的詞合成乙個新詞的方法叫合成法。
1) 合成名詞
例詞: spaceship she-wolf母狼 machine-building機械製造 pain-killer止痛藥highway breakfast flying-fish freezing point冰點 output輸出 turn-off
2) 合成形容詞
例詞:cold-blooded冷血的 potato-shaped 馬鈴薯形式的hand-made 手工制的 self-educated 自學的colour-blind 色盲的left-hand 左邊的good-looking
hard-working ever-green tree 常青樹 light-blue 淺藍色see-through
3) 合成動詞
例詞: ill-treated虐待 mass-produce大規模生產 safe-guard保衛
4) 合成副詞
例詞: however anywhere downstairs anyway
5) 合成代詞 some ,any, no可以與-thing, -one, -body合成代詞。
例如：anybody，something，nobody，someone(=somebody) .
2.派生法
派生是由詞根加詞綴構成新詞，構成的新詞稱派生詞，詞綴分為字首（加於詞根前）。字尾（加於詞根後）。除少數字首外，字首一般只改變詞的意義，不改變詞類，字尾一般只改變詞類，不引起詞義變化。
